Venue: Grant Park
My day 2 of the 20th Lollapalooza included:
AN HORSE – Australian indie rock duo
FRIENDLY FIRES – Three-piece rock band from England. I enjoyed their set. Lead singer Ed Macfarlane worked the stage well.
BLACK LIPS – Four-piece rock band from Atlanta, GA. I had only known their song “Bad Kids” from the “(500) Days of Summer” soundtrack prior to seeing them live. I liked their set. They didn’t appear to take themselves too seriously and joked about their super cool backdrop.
CEE LO GREEN – Most of the crowd for Cee Lo Green were waiting for Eminem to headline this stage and weren’t necessarily interested in seeing Cee Lo. He was obviously frustrated by this.
EMINEM – Night two headliner
The first time I saw Eminem he headlined the inaugural year of the Anger Management Tour in support of The Marshall Mathers LP. I saw Em again in 2002 for the second Anger Management Tour, this one in support of his The Eminem Show album. Both times he had such a command of the audience. I was interested in seeing if Eminem’s Lollapalooza performance would meet that level of expectation. His set included a good mix of songs from his past discography and his latest album Recovery. The crowd was definitely into it. Eminem still has it.
